In searches I can only find threads a few years old, sorry if I've missed a more recent similar thread.

I can source Liveryman and Lister's at cost, so particularly interested in people's views of these manufacturers.

Requirements: personal use (as opposed to yard! - BiCs do me just fine :D),
for my fairly thick/short-coated beasty who has only been clipped twice in his life
to be used by a novice clipper with small hands

Thanks in advance!

We use Lister Star Clippers - highly recommend them. For mains clippers they're quiet, even accepted by our nervous horses. They cut well - get through a full clip (every single hair off!) on our woolly mammoth Cushings just pony fine.

Really do recommend them. :)

Have just bought some of these, they did a great job with first use this week hunter clip and a trace on fairly fuzzy horses easy and straightforwards to set up and use and clean afterwards, not really fiddly. Impressed with them.

Lister wise both Stars and Liberty's are good. Stars have a reputation of running hot but most people just don't check the the air filter enough as it can get very clogged. Liberty's are great if you need something cordless but they can be run off of a car battery or the mains if you get the right adapters. They have no air filter and are a completely closed unit. They went through my mums new forest easily and he is like a wooly mammoth.
Liveryman wise the Harmony Plus is a firm favourite of mine. They are extremely quiet and managed to do a full clip on my cob back when she first started to get fluffy before her winter break. They have an integral battery in clipper which lasts up to an 1.5 hours and a further 4.5 hours use with the battery pack. You can also use this as a mains clipper.
If I didn't have to clip as much as I do then I would get then Harmony Plus. Also they use snap on blades which is a great plus as it means no tensioning.
