Hubby and I are seriously considering treating ourselves to some clippers. Working on the logic that two horses being clipped twice over winter will cost nigh on £100 then £300 or so on a set of clippers seems like an investment.
Being a clipper virgin have any of you got any recommendations?

I bought the Liveryman Harmony clippers and do 2 horses twice per year. They are great and nice and light to hold. Quite reasonable to buy too. May not be hard core enough for a big boy like Hovis tho

I had a pair of heavy duty Hauptner which I loved lasted me years and years till they went to clipper heaven.. I now have Liveryman *mustang* I think which are alright quite quiet blades easy to come by and not overly heavy I do find they get quite hot so you need to rest them if your not super duper quick..*which I am not doing my 17'3 beastie*

I have the Heiniger Progress clippers because for womens hand size they are by far the most comfy. They are mid range so can do 6-8 horses on the trot happily, I do the Border Terrier too! They are mains powered and I was so scared of clipping but now do it quite happily with these, very impressed and happy with them! They are quiet too.

They cost just over £200

here they are

which ever you choose, look at the head the indents where the blade goes, if there are square grooves which have a shim (metal liner) in them. Be careful they fall out and you don't notice, carry on using them and you ruin the head. I think some listers are like this and premier clippers. I know cos it happened to me and had only ever clipped about 14 times
