Clipper recommendations?

I have a IDxTBxHano mare that I event, who will be hunted occassionally in the winter and SJed. Anyway, she has quite a thick coat so we're looking to clip her soonish. Her coat grows quite quickly, so we'll be clipping her around 5 times, and so to save money we've decided to take the plunge and by our own clippers!

We're only looking to do the one horse, as said, and apparently she's good to clip. She came clipped and her owner did her by herself so I think she's good! Does anyone have any recommendations? Do you prefer cordless or mains, or have you found it doesn't bother you? She's 16'2hh and quite chunky so she may take a fair few hours - are there any more lightweight ones out there? However, we're also on quite a budget. So, anyone know of any cheap but decent clippers? Thank you!

I think with clippers you get what you pay for, get the most expensive/powerful you can afford.

I had a set of Moser Artiko, they were capable of a full clip, ok if you were going to do a blanket or belly and neck, trace etc I always felt as I was clipping, was I going to finish if I was doing a full clip.

I sold those on ebay, and bought a set of Lister or Liveryman, can't remember which, but all I know is I got a real bargin, £99, you wonder sometimes if it was too good to be true, it was on buy it now, luckily the seller was telling the truth and I have a near brand new set of clippers for a third of the price. They are like a hot knife through butter, I know I should but sometimes I don't even bath my horse, especially on the second clip, I usually end up doing mine about 4 times. Thats my choice, I know I'll have to get my blades sharpened more often. Although luckily we've had a hot water horse wash and solarium on our yard now so will prob bath him each time, save wear and tear on the clippers.

they are expensive but I've had mine for years and never had any problems with them.

A couple of my friends have the harmony cordless ones - like these > http://www.countrysmiths.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=TRL_EPD0023
and they are a lot quieter and they both love them, one friend has had hers for donkeys years so they have lasted really well!

You can get cheaper clippers but I'm not sure how well they last. When I bought mine everyone said to get a decent pair because they'd last for years and they have.

I've just brought a set of lister showman clippers, the new ones are called lister liberty so there is nothing wrong with them - just an older name. I read up loads on different clippers as I didn't want to chuck my £ away! Clippersharp have a really good deal on them I think. I got the pack with just the battery in as it is so expensive to buy seperatly and I will only need it cordless as there is nowhere to clip at the new yard that is undercover with a plug!
