Hi - wish to purchase a pair of clippers, which will be used regularly on three horses. What would you recommend? And how much? And what else will I need to make sure they are turned out nicely?

Have always paid the grooms at my livery yard to do them but its getting too expensive as they need doing about every 3 weeks at the moment!

Thanks.

Lister Liberty are fab!

I brought a set for about 300 (I know, big investment) for my new show cob and the set included the libretto trimmer. Think it was from farmcare website.

They have a battery pack on so no wires, and will do a full clip, including legs on a hairy beastie!

They were my first set of clippers, I got them as I had tried a friends and can totally recommend them. Its so easy with the battery pack and they are actually not that noisy and the trimmers will do legs and hog manes.

I did my sisters horse this morning who i a massive 16.3 hunter and was able to hog my one after.

I've got Moser Artiko, they were cheap (£145) and they're good for my 1 horse, but probably 3 horse would be too much for them, so they're the ones not to get :) hope it helps :)
also, you might find a good deal on clippers on big horse trade shows? like Your Horse live, Olympia, etc.

Thanks everyone - happy to spend a bit of money coz have spent out 150.00 in last 3 weeks and one of them needs doing again. My gelding is clipped all year round so it gets expensive.

I am off to Olympia - so could take a look there. Will check out the website Coop.

Take care.

Any Lister/Liveryman are good, get the most you can afford, you get what you pay for.

I had a set of the moser artiko, they were OK but not great, good if your horse is nervous but thats about it. I did used to manage a full clip with them, but always used to be praying I'd finish the clip. Good if you do a blanket/trace etc, seemed to struggle over the top half of the body.

My liveryman's are bril, like a hot knife through butter

Love my Liveryman Arena Plus, they are over 10 years old now and I clip lots, both mine every 3 weeks most of the year round and a few friends. They are noisy now but that is more to do with age and abuse than the clippers. Obviously though, the clippers are only as good as the blades you have on them - keep them sharp and oil them lots!

Another vote for Lister Star, (Mine are actually called Lister Neon then they changed name to Lister Star)
I love mine very light weight, they advertise them as for light duty clipping, but I use mine loads, just have them serviced every year.
They were on offer at YHL last wek.

I swear by my wolseley harriers!! Powerful 300 watt machine that makes easy going of clipping, plus I've had mine 13 years and they were second hand when I bought them, so worth every penny I paid!! Will definately be replacing like with like as and when (if ever!!) they do finally die!!!!
