Hey, again still want to buy some clippers and start clipping my cob on my own.

The women that clips my cob thinks his fur is very thick and it takes her over an hour to get it all off and she has to constantly oil her blades coz his coat gets so thick and then he has his feathers taken off as well.

I dont no if medium duty clippers would hack it, should i go for heavy duty or do you think i should go for medium duty?

Some think its a bit over the top to go for heavy duty seeing as they are usually used for a yard of horses, i dont no much about clippers so is that true? i only plan to clip 2 horses with them and my cob needs doing right through the year.

Any ideas?

I wouldnt go with the star personally. I have the Heiniger Progress clippers which are fantastic. If he is really hairy, I would get the heiniger delta clippers. They are very powerful, and fantastic to use! Highly recommend

The star clippers I found flimsy, and quite noisy for their size. I know some people lovely them, but I borrowed a friends, and my perfect to clip horse wouldnt allow me anywhere near him as they "whistled" and sounded rattly

Hope you don't mind, but I have a question in regards to clipping cobs... Would it be odd to clip a cob but keep all his feathers? Does it look strange or do you blend it in?
 
Well I've never clipped before, so would probably get someone else to do it! But my cob is a hairy beast, so thought might be an idea to get him clipped in spring, keep it a bit more manageable lol! What sort of clip would you have for a cob who's not really doing anything? He's a youngster so not being ridden or anything but probably mostly doing showing with him.
 
If you are showing, I would leave it completely. It would be unnecessary to do a full clip on him, and lines dont look good when they're growing out for showing!
 
I have Heiniger Handy clippers for my cob...seem to work fine. I am no expert but if your cob has very thick hair, would it be worth going over him once with a set of course blades, then again with a finer set?

About not clipping feathers-I wouldnt try and blend it in, just leave the whole leg on (like you would with a normal clip).

Well this time ive taken his legs off coz where the women that usally clips him let me down a few times his legs got a bit scabby so i had to take them off, but i usually leave his feathers on for the winter and much prefer doing that

I bought some fairly cheap heavy duty Masterclip clippers for my cob last winter - and they're fantastic, best clippers I've ever used!

I clip my pony all over but leave his legs and feathers, he looks fine

Ow im actually completely confuzzled :S ive looked around for heiniger clippers but they all seem to be around £300, i found what seemed like a nice pair of Lister clippers but looking around theyve been named noisy and clumpy and said not to be the best buy

I need someone to tell me the best clippers that arent very expensive and then where to buy them lol
 
I would get what you can afford, if you can afford a heavy duty set then definately get them, I had a set of moser artiko clippers which were ok for belly and neck, trace, blanket etc, they did do a full clip but struggled over the rump area that gets greasy I suppost.

I got a heavy duty set, bargain off ebay, wasn't sure wether to believe the seller but turned out to be the truth, nearly brand new. Like a hot knife through butter, definately recommend getting the most powerful you can afford. I think they are lister or liveryman, its a year ago I used them last , I can't remember ha ha
