I know there are lots of posts about clippers, but just wondered what peoples opinions were on the best type of clippers for extreamly hairy cobs and esp getting through thick long feathers. I would love to get more that a couple of clips out of the blades too. I have liveryman harmony at the moment and do a great job but cant cope with my horses feathers.

Any suggestions welcome! Thanks.

not much help, but liveryman stallion struggle a little on my natives rump on the first clip.
Despite this they have always done a good job.

However, i did have a set of very powerful liveryman mustang that would probably have gone though anything!

For the thicker coat, you really need a full size clipper, with a set of A6 blades for the matted stuff and A2 blades for the finer finish. A Wolseley Swift is a good buy and reliable, or you could consider a Heinegar or a Lister, the most important thing is the blades.

Hi Heiniger clippers the more robust ones are really good for clipping the courser legs on cobs, I can get a good 10 clips before sending the blades for sharpening.

I use Heiniger progress clippers on my very hairy cob, he has very coarse feathers which I whip off every 3 weeks & the rest of him every 6. They are light weight though & are good if you have small hands.
I have had them for 2 1/2 years & alternate 3 pairs of blades.
