Hi,

I am looking to buy some horse clippers this month. Rather than renting again...
I am not decided between those two : Lister Star & Hauptner 2000 (the purple ones).

I had the opportunity to try the Hauptner two years ago on horses who had been never clipped before. It clips very well, a bit heavy anyway, and noisy. It needs to adjust the tension sometimes as well.

Is there anyone here who tried both already ?
What would be your choice ?

Thanks for your help

I've only used LS out of the two. They clip very well, and a nice and light to use. Just did a chaser clip on one of the horses today in fact. And on average I probably use them on about 4 horses every other week in the winter, doing anything from a chaser to full. They're nice and quite too.

Not used the Hauptner.

Liked the Lister Star, clips very well but everyone I know that owns one has had them break. I believe clothes have all had good customer service from Lister when needed though.

My Lister Stars have been brilliant for the last 4 years, took some real abuse with my horse who likes to kick out , they were kicked across the yard and ended up being duct taped back together as the head fell off :o Now looking at getting the lister legend though as I have a yard full of irish horses with typical thick irish coats and the lister stars did struggle a bit at times. Lovely lightweight clippers though and would highly recommend unless you have a woolly mammoth to clip like I do!

Probably not much help but my Hauptners are 36 years old and still going strong so they are reliable. They are heavy and noisy though and you do need to tinker with the tensioning. I prefer Lister clippers I think but the Hauptners are still going strong.

The motor on the Hauptner is good! But the heads are not so good. Blades are over £50 a set as well whereas Lister blades are £39. The Star is a good small entry level machine for the money. Currently on offer with my employer at £239 including a Legato trimmer bottle of oil and a Pico.
My best advice though buy s Star and take the extra two year warranty with Lister for £42.......peace of mind as if motor goes and takes out Pcb it is a ££££££ repair. Or go up a level and buy a superb Heinegar Xperience with two blades at special price £299.....Have a look w. w. w dot clipper (no space) sharp. Dot com. can't put link Admin will spank me

thanks mine Stars and trimmers have arrived this morning :)
I only clip one horse 2/3 times a year do I still need the extra warranty?

Its worth it for £42 quid.......because the Star has a sealed motor and PCB unit if they go pop, the bill is going to be £130 plus. £42 is cheap peace of mind for a further two years.PS buy a couple of spare filters and ensure you check they are clean before clipping. Happy Clipping.
