Have been looking at trimmers, but it would seem that the really good ones are almost as expensive as clippers (or are they almost as expensive as rubbish clippers?

) Sooooo, I'm now considering clippers. I don't need heavy duty clippers, only 2 horses to clip, so is this feasible or even a good idea? (originally I was going to get someone else to clip and trim myself)
Questions; if I change the blades, can clippers work as well as trimmers?
What's the deal with all the blades? What's the difference between coarse, medium and fine blades? The yakkiness of your horse's coat?
Is there a brand that uses blades that can be interchanged with Oster clippers (apart from Oster clippers

)? as I know I can get the blades sharpened here.
Suggestions, ideas, advice welcome, PLEASE. Thank you

I've got wahl moser horseline avalon cordless clippers, very easy to use, will work as trimmers as well as getting though 2 native coats. Nice and quiet too if you have a stressypants to do...

Medium and fine blades are what you are most likely to use. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the coarse blades are used for doing feathers.

Here's a couple of websites for you to google which I found really useful when I was doing my research, lots and lots of helpful information.

The main comment i would make, is "Trimmers Trim, Clippers Clip", if you are looking at doing full clips, buy a set of good clippers, IE full size blades, then buy a small pair of cheap trimmers for doing the fiddly bits that you cant reach with the big clippers. As for Oster blades, they will often fit, thrive, andis and some wahl machines, but all three of these brands tend to be expensive trimmers. Many trimmer manufacturers now supply "wide" blades, which some people use for clipping. I would say however that I still feel that even when fitted with wider blades, trimmers are still not "man enough" for full clips. If I read correctly, you are in Argentina, so I am not sure what brands of clipper are sold there. If you are going to buy some, try to go for a recognised brand..IE Wolseley, Lister, Liscop etc and avoid the E Bay specials which are cheap and nasty copies imported from China, quite often with sub standard steel blades. If you want some advice on any brand, please feel free to PM me.

Ian
