Any ideas? They seem to be running strongly. They cut for literally a couple of minutes then wouldn't oblige, so I went and bought new blades, coarse ones as the horse has a thick coat, still nothing! I have taken the blades apart numerous times to remove hairs in between, adjusted the tension, oiled, even got someone else experienced to check I wasn't going mad and everything looked normal/blades in correctly. So; stumped now! What could I be missing? Horse woolly but not filthy. I have clipped the same horse with these clippers for years!

I'm also having the same issue so will be interested in the replies.

What clippers do you have? I have Lister Star. I'm using the same oil, I have sharp blades, even a new set and they still aren't working. It's like the hair gets jammed?? I've tried the tension from very loose to too tight, and none works.

I'm not sure. I know sometimes if my clippers don't clip properly then I haven't got the tension right. Hope you get it sorted.

I think there is a clipper virus going around! I had exact same issues this weekend (Heinieger Handy's) - hair seemed to be getting trapped between the blades, but even with newley sharpened blades and playing for 30 minutes with tensioning I couldn't get them working :(

How bizarre! Kind of glad it's not just me! They are Lister Showman, I have had them for years, they usually work, or if not I get new blades and then they work. I did try various different tensions to no avail. Maybe the horses have grown weird coats this year it's been so wet!? Very frustrating.

my clippers do this only when running of a battery pack if not a lot of charge or if running of mains there is a problem with the mains (less electric traveling down wire)

That's interesting. Mine are running off a strong vehicle battery (I know it's strong because it starts a big 4x4 instantly!) I can tell when they are running weakly as they sound different so I dont think it's that...

Hmm the connection isn't good though- I taped it together- but surely it wouldn't sound/run strong if there wasnt enough current!?

when were the clippers last serviced and pat tested? they should be done annually. you could have problems with the head, bushes, etc etc ........... no end of things!

You probably need new bushes. They are wee carbon thingies that run the motor (or something like that ;) ). They cost buttons and can be done yourself if you are mechanically minded. If not, you are probably as well to put them in for servicing and get the bushes changed.

Ooh no they have never been serviced! Only had them about 14 years :0 They are Lister Showman. The motor appears to run OK, the blades appear to move normally at usual speed?? Confused!!

Same problem over here with my Arena clippers. Only used them about 5 times. Got blades sharpened, bought a new set of coarse hair ones but they still give up after a couple of strips of coat removed.
Poor mare looks like the moths have been at her :(

Can be a variety of things, but I would be inclined to first check the comb pegs for wear. Just sit the blades on and try moving the big blade. Is there lots of slop on the plastic pegs that hold the comb? If so get new pegs fitted. Also with listers check the small white runner blocks or large black plastic yoke on the small cutter, are they worn or loose? Also you could try a new tension assy, as springs go weak in time. Apart from that send off for a service.

Good luck

Ive been having the same problem (Wolsely hunters) not even had them a year thought it was blades too but nope, going to get them serviced once ive finshed my clips this month and hope i get them back quickly enough to start again

I'd suggest the clippers are getting overheated. Have you made sure there is no hair in the air vent? If this is not the case it might be you are over oiling the blades, but as you have been clipping for many years I'm not sure I'm correct in this assumption.

i also had the same problem with my wolsely swifts - only after they had been serviced and the blades sharpened... I phoned the company who did them and they were only interested in having the blades back to check. Ive not heard back yet but just a thought - all those with this problem, have you just had blades sharpened and could we have all sent to the same place??
