Clippers??

hi, a girl at my yard has got clippers and people are asking her if they can use them. She is charging £10 per horse/clip so she can sharpen the clippers again. Does it really cost £10 to sharpen the clippers and do you have to sharpen them everytime you clip 1 horse??

depends on coat thickness how much they will blunt the blades - personally I think £10 is excellent value - I just wouldn't loan out my clippers - dropping them - damaging the cable dropping battery pack - over heating them - all these things I do to my own myself but would be mightly peeved off if someone else ruined my clippers - especially for £10 a go!
 
You have 3 choices, or even 4:
1. borrow the clippers and pay her the £10
2. buy your own clippers
3. pay somebody else to clip your horse, there are people offering that sort of service
4. try to hire clippers from somebody else, if you think you can get them cheaper.

I think it's very good value to borrow them for a tenner, I would certainly not lend mine to anybody, a tenner or not.
 
I wouldn't let anyone borrow my clippers for the same reasons as clopper as listed - i know someone who leant hers out to a so called friend! who didn't oil them or let them or switch them off to be cooled down! consequently one knackered pair of clippers!!! cue one HUGE row on the yard!

£10 for a chaser clip is blooming cheap too!
 
I appreciate that! But clippers are not cheap. I have just bought a new pair of Liverymans, they cost nearly £200.

That's what I mean - they are expensive to replace if anything happens to them, like if your horse treads on the cable. And sharpening/replacing blades, oiling them, recharging the battery etc all costs money.

So I think £10 is perfectly reasonable for you to be able to clip your horse.

If you can't afford it, maybe you could offer to do her a favour in return? Like poo picking, offering to turn out one weekend so she could have a lie-in etc?

TBH, I'd clip your horse for you & charge you (£35 for a trace), but I wouldn't just lend them out. £10 or not!

Thats a really good price to get your horse clipped imo. For our yard to clip your horse its 25 for a low trace then 30 for a blanket or chaser then 35 for a full well that was last year i think they've went up this year. I fully clipped my friends horse last week for 10 and she was going to give me 30!! Personally i wouldnt lend my clippers out as if they get broke they most likely wont pay for a new pair then im stuck with none so your getting a good deal.
