so i decided rather than pay someone to clip the girls for me, i’d just buy my own, cos how hard can it be?!

now don’t get me wrong, it could be a lot worse, but it also could be a lot better😂

bless my little pony though, she’s never been clipped before and she stood there like a little gem…no mean feat for a pony worried to death by her day to day life🤣

will be turning it into an irish clip when i can next be bothered!

It looks fine but it is best to get it all done in one day although years ago I knew someone who took about a week to do full clip by just doing a bit each day, I couldn't be doing that I like it done once I decide to clip its one of those things I don't look forward to.

Looks good and just look after your clippers and always keep them as clean as possible and you will be fine x

i thought i’d broken them yesterday! took the blades off to get all the hair out, but i didn’t pull the blades back far enough so the little trigger underneath didn’t spring up, after 6 of us tried and failed to get them back on we googled it and youtube showed us where i went wrong🤦🏼‍♀️😂

I used to always pay someone to do it as I only had 1 horse that needed doing twice each winter. When the herd grew, I decided I'd just do it myself. I've been doing it myself about 3 yrs now and still not great, although new horse needs clipping regularly all year round so you'd think I'd be improving by now!
You haven't done badly at all for your first try!

That looks pretty good! I won't share the photo of when the microcob moved quickly just as I was doing the line of her trace clip last year. I thought I'd blended it in ok with her winter coat but when she moulted this year the flipping wonky line was a different colour for weeks!

Youre very lucky you have such a sensible pony to clip! Try clipping a fire breathing dragon... wish me luck this winter... the mares clip is generally a minimal one which I slowly make bigger depending on her mood that day. Basically I take off as much as I can before she really blows her fuse and tells me where to go. Its never pretty but it does the job!

I was always told the difference between a bad clip and a good clip is about a week. Give it a week and it'll be perfect.

I use kids chalk to draw on them to get the lines ish in the right place, before that I used to go higher and higher trying to match the sides !!

In my teens I hunted with quite a posh pack. Deciding pony needed a bit of a clip, I did a sort of trace clip with mum's dog clippers. To say it was patchy would be a compliment. Pleased with the result, if I remember correctly, the hunt had the embarrassment of me turning up at the weekend for at least 2 seasons 🤣

I decided to do my own clipping last year as I now have a native type so bought my own clippers. I can't believe how difficult it is, especially face and legs - and I have trimmers for the twiddly bits. I have decided the messy bits where you have to bend down and look up to see can be lived with as no one but me is going to be peering underneath to check!

There's a few racehorses that keep warm bellies 😂😂 I hate it when the racecourse photographer puts his ground camera out to shoot from underneath 😂😂

she wasn’t impressed, she shot to the back of the stable at first🤣 bless her heart she’s the “i’ll stand here and try my very best mum”, but that’s why i didn’t take anymore off! the 4 year old on the other hand, bold as brass but if she doesn’t like it that’s the end of that - will be doing some desensitising but i’m not planning on getting them near her without sedation😂 crossing my fingers for you!

i evened her up on the side, silently congratulated myself on my first attempt, and then she moved her head and i realised i’d missed a big chunk next to her jaw🤣🤣 it’s staying like that for now!
