Clipping a Shetland

anyway, OP if you want to clip your pony you clip it, if you are going to rug it, not a lot of point, exercise it to lose weight, like any other horse, if i sound self rightious I apologise, just passing on info of my own experience with the little fatties, each to their own etc etc.

yes, sorry OP we went slightly off topic there. I personally have never heard of clipping to aid weight loss but their may be others who have.

Not meaning to sound patronising but the little ones can look fat when all hairy but when the fur comes off they look a few stone lighter!!

If its the one in your siggy he's cute

isn't that what most of the replies actually said??

except your's perhaps.....
as you were asking the OP if she was having a laugh..............

just an observation........

are you not getting any or something? Seem very wound up?

Said to OP (having re-read her post AND apologising for omission on my part - since i have a life and dont read every post 10 times before posting and type rather fast so sometimes it just flows out of the fingers - oh I made an ERROR!!)

That clipping is waste of time, why clip and not exercise? To me its a no brainer! - clipping to lose weight when you could simply give it exercise as you would a riding horse. How many people would suggest clipping a large horse to get it to lose weight or is this common in your country? Presuming you dont live in the UK...

as for dreams...

Being contraversial (sp??) we have always left rugs off when cold but dry for horses to loose weight (not major weightloss). It was especially used on a fat welsh mountain who with too much work got too strong for me so we tried to keep muscle tone down. He used to have a clip.
Bascically providing they don't get wet they were fine clipped or not.
My theory is if you'd do it it's good for your horse (or pony) and I find always being cold stops me getting fat, shivering is the easiest exercise!!!

I'll be giving my shetland a low trace. She is exercised, but, being a typical native she's still rather porky. I won't be rugging her and am hoping one of the side effects of being clipped is that she loses a bit of weight!

with a mind like yours and your assumption of others characters I really shouldnt need to spell it out, but if I was as grumpy as you then probably be in the same predicament.

Dreams, yes we all have them, difference is I am happy with mine that came true and the one's that havent I am content with them being just that.

Now I really need Z's so I dont miss the odd word on a forum that people live on and then get slated for it!!

Be good JM.

have to say im on the side of JMO7
Winkfiedwintershere you sound a little opinionated, which is a good thing, but when you try to force your opinion on everyone else its not so good

just chillax - no-one likes a no-it all WWH

to the OP - I think a little clip isnt going to kill him

Has anyone ever clipped a shetland for the purpose of aiding weight loss?

Is this not asking for "an opinion"?? Forums are all about that, and some chat obviously, but if i sound opinionated I am sorry that you percieve me in that way.

I am confident in what I say, from the limited experience i have. I have never claimed to know "it all" as you put, I have knowledge from my own experiences, but then they may be limited to the field that i specialise in. I believe we never stop learning, how can we?

So whatever "opinion" you have formed, you are wrong if you feel that my character is like that.

Unfortunately I dont always have time for fluffy talk, if people ask for an opinion, and i feel it is something I have PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED then yes I will post. People can choose to read it or not and invariably do their own thing, which can only be right.

You will note I tend to put IMHO - which means in my HUMBLE OPINION, hence why on earth would that mean I am a "know all"!!!

I have been extremely lucky to have some fantastic animals, and mostly good experiences with horses and the horsey community, hence I dont suffer fools gladly.

If someone tells me to STFU, then unfortunately, its going to make me talk more!!! JM07 is rude and sarcastic, something which I try and avoid.

The OP asked the question, and IMHO (humble opinion) choose to read it only or not, if a horse is fat, no matter what it's size, clipping is a lazy answer, exercise the thing if feeding regime is not working, simple.

Clipping "may" help some, but what I said was in my experience (having clipped for showing not weight loss) it made no difference, so is that being a know all?

Some people are so judgemental on here, when all I do is give an opinion, based on my actual knowledge or experience, is that not what a forum is for?

For a thread such as this personally I would tend to listen to the people on here like Stinkbomb for example who has successfully produced a fantastic mini, myself I have two, and if you dont have a shettie or havent experienced a friend with one etc, how would you know?

I see this forum as a way for people to discuss their own experiences good or bad, so again I get slated for being an apparent "know all"!!!

Nice people.
