I am planning to fully clip my boy this weekend as we have a showing show early in March and I want to get rid of his half grown in blanket clip for it. Question is should I take legs off as well or leave on and just tidy up feathers and whispy hairs up the back? Just not sure how 'correct' he would look with hairy legs but never had to think about it as don't usually competed so early in the year. He is out during the day and stabled at night.

ooo not something I have any experience of so I will let someone more knowledgeable comment

What I would say though is if you leave the legs on do trim up feathers and wispy bits and you could use a trimmer fitted with a guard to blend the top of the legs in so you don't get that 'stepped' effect

A word of caution: I clipped my welshie out in Jan last year for an early March show but he still looked the same for the show, no coat growth at all (I suppose its not really the right time of year) poor sod had pink skin showing!

I would fully clip out , legs included and get it done ASAP, Has your horse started moulting yet? You might not get the coat through by March but if you rug, groom well and hot cloth you should get a reasonable coat for showing. I dont clip mine after Dec usually but as you have the blanket clip you dont want lines still in for March.

He's not moulting yet. Was worried that he'd still look a bit bald but as he's been on his winter hols until recently I didn't bother clipping again. Think I'll take your advice and take it all off!

Everything off and if you are tabling at night get a timer on the lights and set it for 4am to turn on and 10pm for the lights to go out. The bulb needs to be quite bright as it has to fool the Pituitary Gland into thinking it's mid summer. His old coat will drop out and the new one grow well.
