I do a bit of clipping to help out with bills in the winter months.

But I have never been asked to clip in may! I clipped a 5yo Irish mare this morning. She was brought over (to Italy) a few months ago and has been in her new home a month. She was not in the best condition when they got her. She will go eventing and is starting to pick up condition and work, but had a thick coat that was showing no signs of shedding and was making her sweat profusely because it's getting hot here.

I have no idea if it was a non shed of a winter coat or just a thicker than normal summer coat.

I was just curious, is there anyone else who, aside from cushings, has to clip at strange times?

I've known quite a few in heavy work be clipped all year round, usually cobs & the odd native with heavy summer coats.

Thankyou. This one isn't a cob or heavy type, I don't know her breeding but looks to me like a lighter ISH type. Who knows what's in there!

One of our tb's, May, has to be clipped year round. She sheds her winter coat and in its place is one almost as thick. She's a broodmare, but does some in hand showing and it makes her look much nicer and less sweaty in the summer.

Some on my yard clip, one pony grows a mega summer coat and events so it comes off, other does not a lot with not much of a coat, that comes off anyway! Each to their own I guess.

When I had my clyde on daily work he was clipped all year round. His coat would grow quickly and even though he was fit he would get hot.

I have just clipped my dapple grey New Forest amonth since he was last done. I have to clip him throughout the summer as he gets a thick coat quickly but he has NO health problems & has always been this way. 4 weeks before every show he is clipped out & the coat will be lovely for the show, it grows that quickly, but is soon to thick to pass muster. if there are no shows for him I clip him anyway as a welfare issue. Weird I know. Never had one like this before.

I clip mine all year round. He is a cob and sweats up too much. He is worked every day and just wouldn't be comfortable with his full coat.

Had him checked and vet said he is just a hot cob.
