My horse will be having a chaser or trace clip but I would like to have a heart or star clipped into her bum, ie the star will be clipped but the rest of her bum will be hairy. I've been looking on the stencilbum website and all their stencils seem to be where you leave the hair on in the design, but clip around. So how would I do it my way??

Also is it unreasonable to as someone who is coming to clip your horse (payed) to clip in a design

?? I would be willing to pay a bit extra obviously.

stencil bum used to do the clip in design so you could take the hair off just where you need it. there used to be 2 buttons for clip in or clip around designs ill go have a look

You can do it, I chase clipped a pony today and then clipped a star into his bum.

I made my own template with cardboard and then finished it free hand.

I bought a stencil from a tack shop in Stafford somewhere. Thick plastic rectangle with one large heart and 3 smaller ones. Got my pal one with stars on. Poor Sunny had the large heart shaved into his bum last year and this year has the 3 smaller ones. Well, it makes the vets smile if nothing else! Sunny has a trace clip so I just press the stencil onto his hairy bum and shave away the hair that pops up through the stencil. You could use it the other way round by pressing the stencil onto the unclipped bum and drawing round it with lippy. Remove stencil and clip everything off except the lippy outlined bit. Pix afterwards please lol x

I made my own stencils with cereal boxes. I printed the design on the comp cut it out, drew it onto the cardboard, cut it out then re-inforced it with packing tape!
