I am clipping today. I assume with this years weather alot of you have already done so but I know it's early and my reason is that my boy his too hot while being ridden and even while standing in his stable :(

Anyway he is a coloured cob x welsh c and I'm not decided on his feathers!

When he was younger I had him with a pulled mane and clipped out feather, and he did look quite smart. We then progressed onto showing where he is a native coloured -not traditional, meaning he has natural mane which is quite short but longer than being pulled. He also has a bit of feather, not masses.

This year for various reasons we've not been out showing much, he's being doing dressage and being a general happy hacker.

So , feathers off or leave?!

I should add , in the winter he grows them from his knees and by summer he only has a little left at his ankle.

He's also rubbed some mane out this summer with the midges and damp weather, so he has a chunk missing. So I'm thinking of pulling it.

Decisions decisions!!

I've clipped my highland. I leave the whole leg on though as feel it's a shame to take all the protection off as the rugs won't cover those areas and leaves him very exposed when it snows etc. I guess it depends on how much your cob will be out during the winter. I love feathers, though they can be a pest when the snow balls up in them. Think I'd leave them on for now and see how the weather goes.
