I want to clip (or get someone to do it)! my spaniely thing.... shes spaniel x collie and soo flipping hairy its unreal...

Thinking around march time? but does anyone have any piccies of fully clipped spaniels to see how she *could* look??

I mean full clip - everything off - i do clip her a little now but only the stragly hair - im talking bald! :D

pics please!

thanks :)

Will try and dig out some pics over the weekend as I have always clipped my spaniels. I have done a full clip before (They look great, like a cross between a seal pup and a small labrador!) but tend to opt for full over head, neck, topline, sides, insides of ears, then just trim legs, feet, bottoms of ears a lot shorter unless it is mega hot.

They look really smart like this, but take half the time to dry out and I wouldn't want a winter with a full coat when you have horses and a very active dog. Mine swims whenever she has the opportunity, is a total mud magnet, will lie in puddles etc, regardless of whether there is ice she has to break first, and it is so much easier to get her clean and dry again afterwards with less hair.

I use my horse clippers and clip in the direction of the hair. I then use horse trimmers to do ears, face, feet where I need a narrower blade. Dog doesn't care at all. I have never reacted or stopped clipping so she has just accepted it. Used to cost £25 with a groomer.

You might like to go to a groomer the first time, say your dog is nervous and that you wish to stay, and then watch so you know what to do with your own clippers. It is what I did :-)

thanks julie :)

i have clipped her before with my clippers but shes a tad nervous

i would rather go the gromers for the first time then hi-jack my friends horse clippers the 2nd time and do it myself....

shes always molting and its driving me potty (not the dog fault lol)! but when shes full of mud and soaking wet and takes agesss to dry off i keep thinking *clip*!!!!!

thanks again :)

i clip my old springer over summer as he gets too hot = and my cocker too as he wails like a girl if i try to brush birs out of him teheheh
mind you he also wails like a girl when i clip him - in total 'you're def trying to kill me' submissing lying on his back paws in air crying - he's such a whimp!!
but he's def happier afterwards
i'll try to dig out pics :)

ps - for moulting use a mane thning type comb - the oyster ones are fab and take out all the dead hair ;) really helps for moulting etc - i even use mine on cat and he loves it

^^ thanks :)

i already use a furminator and brush her loads.... also she loves swimming lol!... so that gives her a smelly bath at least once a week :D

:)

I clip our spangles....the first attempt was definitely more butchered than clipped but there is some styling going on now!!

Will try and find some pics....

Super furry

And somewhere in the middle (which I like best)

I clip her probably once every 6weeks now, it is easier to dry her off after a wet walk if her fur is shorter so she is actually warner with short hair :)

thanks the the pics ^^

the last pic is where about mine is now.... just want rid of the fluff though :D

my theory is it will grow back - but aparantly if i do clip her - no-one in the family will walk her hahahaha!!! :D

That was about my third attempt....after the first one I was tempted to only walk her in the dark!!

I clip in the direction the hair grows and use the bare clipper for her back and sides and a number 2 grader attachment for her undercarriage and legs :)

She does need a good bath and furminate before I start or it gets all patchy and the clippers clog  :D

ok cool :)

i do have some good dog clippers but they arnt that sharp/good!!!

i dont want her to end up looking stupid.... however - its cold and if she looks stupid she can wear her jacket hahah :D

Then use horse clippers..going with the hair ,gives an excellent finish, very level.
