My big lad is normally fully clipped, Nov, Jan, and again about March. Because he was meant to live out for the winter, we only took his neck, chest and tummy off this year. (as it turned out, he ended up coming in in Nov, but that is by the by). Anyway, we are doing a sponsored ride on Sunday, and he is still really hairy across his back, and the rest of him has grown more hair too. I am a bit worried about him overheating, so am think about clipping him on Thursday. We will do a full clip this time, but should I take his legs off too, or leave them on? His legs haven't been touched all winter.

If he is going to be turned out at all then leave them on.

I prefer to leave on anyway, only because I hate having my clippers around the lower leg incase I slip

I am about to clip my horses legs cos they look hideous! He was fully clipped out though (last done in jan) and is now starting to look a bit moth eaten as is golden summer coat is starting to come through his grey clipped look! His legs are all spikey and are not flattering his chunky legs!!!

Oh and he is out 24/7 now (with a rug on obviously). He suffers with dermatitis on his hind legs so is always better when they are clipped as I can treat them easier and they also dry quicker so his skin doesn't get as irritated.

Does he have feather? I prefer to take feathers off because it lets you check for heat or swelling. Our vet couldn't work out why Daisy was lame for over a month last year until he clipped her leg to scan it and found a huge lump. It just hadn't been feelable through all that hair
