I charge £50 a horse. I don't charge less for trace/blanket clips, as clipping lines takes more time and skill than whacking the lot off.
I am a big fan of taking everything off, even though I am perfectly capable of clipping straight lines!
£50 is the norm here. I do my own (badly), so it seems a lot for someone to pay, but not when you consider the time, wear on the clippers, blade sharpening, fuel, not to mention the risk of injury and patience required!
£50 has been the going rate round here fir the last few years. I would expect it to be more this year due to fuel costs etc. I have always done my own with battery clippers, works out so much cheaper. The clippers pay for themselves after one winter!!
Oh I don't plan on clipping other peoples horses! It's not the horses that's the problem it's the people I can't be bothered dealing with ?? I haven't done it for many years, I just clip the racehorses and I do quite enjoy it for the most part.
No I was curios because I have just seen someone advertising that they will clip any horse, no matter how badly behaved, for £20. And I didn't think the price of clipping would have down THAT much in the last few years. So it leads me to believe that they are truly awful at clipping or have never actually done it before.
I always did my own, until I discovered the joy of paying £50 to be presented with a fully clipped, bathed, dried horse, with pulled/trimmed mane and tail, happily tucked up eating his tea in his stable.
Since breaking my back, clipping is just too sore, so I pay a WONDERFUL person to do mine. I pay £70 a horse, for everything off including legs, and blending of the triangle above the tail. She does a beautiful job, and I make sure that I prepare them as if I was clipping myself. I give them both a thorough bath the day before, and they’re clean, dry, and with tails plaited and folded up in bandages out of the way. Makes all the difference when you’re clipping lots to have clean, dry horses. And makes the quality of the clip and the experience for your horse far better!
