I know this has probably been asked a lot but should/ can I clip in summer?
I have a black gelding who is in 6 days of work a week and is worked for a minimum of 40 mins to a max of 1 hour but our hacks can be for more than an hour and can get incredibly sweaty from head to hoof! His summer coat is almost completely through but it is soooo thick and he gets very hot very quickly, even just standing in the field on a sunny day he can be clammy!
So can/ should I clip him in summer??

Thanks in advance 😊

Yup mines clipped all year round, in fact I am more fastiduous about it in summer as its miserable for them being hot and sweaty. I fully clip, legs and face off the lot. You will be surprised at how much comes off. My mare has the loveliest silky coat but its so dense. There was a wheelbarrow full when I clipped her last week!

Yup clip all year round, currently every 2 weeks to keep comfy and smart. Head and body, and blend legs in.

Agree with all of this. I’ve had to clip mine as she’s hairy. Thought it would be a nightmare as I’ve had to sedate to clip previously but she’s got over it now!
