Clipping legs

I decided to clip my ponios feathers last night......... and made a bit of a mess. You can sort of see big clipper marks. Is this because I haven't clipped enough off? I also took a swipe out of her side trying to get rid of some cat hairs, she looks like shes taken on a lawn mower and lost!

I think i need to do it again as there is still quite abit of hair there. I thought it was perhaps like doing your eyebrows and you should leave it and go back to it before you take too much off!

Theres definatly an art, i think i've finally got there with it and can clip our heavy horses legs and blend it in so the at day or two after it looks natural. I find you go close all the way round and take the hair at the corronet off by going at and angle you may also need to go quite high at the back of the knee to blend depending on how high your ponies feathers start. Keep practicing, you'll get there!

I always take mine right up in a line to the back of the knee and then all the way round the front and I try to 'blend' it in around the pastern area if I am not clipping the whole leg (i clip all the legs totally in the winter). the hair is naturally shorter once you get to the cannon bone so, if the horse has really thick feathers then I would clip over the fetlock joint too and blend in higher up the leg so not so obvious. I have been doing mine for years now, fortunately he helpfully is a dun with black legs so it's quite easy to blend the clip in to where the black markings are so you can't notice as much!
