Friends horse has had a mud fever sort of infection on his legs it has taken forever to clear and the vet suggested clipping his legs so she could get at the scabs easier should it start to come back. Horse is a TB so not too much hair and always been fantastic to clip on his body, agreed to help her and managed to do his fronts with a tiny bit of fidgeting however his back legs are a whole different ball game, he isnt kicking out as such just snapping them up, if you hold a front leg up he then snatches the back leg up even quicker.
At present his front legs are off and finished however he is sporting a rather sexy look on his back legs as they look like rats have been nibbling them with patches out here and there really cant be left as they are ( he is meant to be at a show in 2 weeks!) and would rather not be kicked in the process any hints or tips we could try?

My lad will only let me clip his legs with my Avalon clippers they are smaller and don’t vibrate as much, if i use my Liberty Clippers he is the same as your friends horse.

Might be worth trying a different sent of clippers.

Alternatively you could try a twitch or sedalin.

I had a similar problem, firstly make sure they are holding up the opposite front leg as I didn't think of that at first and it did make a difference. I then borrowed a pair of cordless clippers and they were much easier and I didn't have the thought of getting tangled up in the cord to worry about on top of dodging legs!

I find picking up the leg you want to clip and stretching it fully forward or fully back then clipping in that position works. Much like a farrier would do.
Very little chance of getting kicked either.

Thanks for all the advice headed to yard and friend was armed with sedalin decided to give it 1 more go with out and when i stopped fannying about and just got hold of his leg and got on with it he was fine and stood pretty much still bless him. He obviously just didnt take kindly to me messing.
