I have a wee tb which i usually do a hunter clip on but as winter goes on his legs get rather hairy and after i ride i always hose his legs down to get all the dirt etc off and they take hours to dry. I was thinking it might be better to take the legs off but have been told your ment to bangage if legs are off?? Is that correct??

Thanks :D

I leave legs on, but I have a set of smaller trimmers that I use to take off all feathers and fluff so the legs are much much neater.

Hi, what we often do is clip the legs off when its still slightly warmer, then when its alot colder leave the legs on when you do the 2nd and 3rd clips, that way theres a but more than when there when the reall cold weather kicks in! :)

Why would you want to clip legs of a TB? As long as you wash them very thoroughly with cold water to remove wet mud, they will dry naturally in a nice thick bed!

Why could you not clip a tbs legs? I dont think there any different from any other horses legs unless there like twigs!!! He is on a deep shavings bed and i can honestly say the legs take hours to dry :(
These are his excessivky hairy legs from last year lol

Zoelouisem ... yes was thinking about that one, do the legs tend to be less hairy if clipped first clip then left?

LOL can see why you want to clip them, i dont see why you woulnt clip a TBs legs anymore than anything else.
And yes definatly get alot less hair when clipped on the first clip, we tend to clip them all off on the first clip leave them on then all off again on the last clip, to be honest ive had horses all my life with clipped legs and havent ever bandaged for that reason, i just try to make sure i dont do it in the middle of a reall cold snap!! Hope that helps you. :)

Oh no iwasnt laughing cos they looked funny i was laughing at how hairy they got espeacailly for a TB. Where i work they get clipped off because it looks tidyer simple. So i wouldnt worry if thats why your doing it. None of our horses get cold legs or scabs there very very well cared for but have to look smart!! :)

yea they are very hairy for a tb lol hes not normal :p I laugh everytime i see his winter legs as there so odd looking, but he of course thinks hes cool dude ;)
