Does anyone have any tips for cutting dog's nails. My JR nails are really long. I know only to clip a tiny bit off and only the transparent part but what about black nails ???
Hi, I too have a JR with black nails, I just make sure I only take about 2-3 mm off the end (just the pointy bit!). Another tip is to have some wound powder handy just in case you do cut too much off.
If s/he has any clear nails you should be able to gauge how much to take off the others from these.
Good luck and make sure doggy doesn't wriggle!
As post suggests small amount at a time and flour makes a great co-agulant if they bleed. just dump some in a bowl and stick dogs foot in, it will dry any blood up in no time.
One of my JRT chews her own nails short so they never need cutting. The other one is a nightmare we have to distract him with belly rubs and doggie chocolate buttons. He likes to eat the clippings though so that is like a treat for him sitting still long enough for me to do it!
