Would you clip now? My mare has a bib clip atm and she is slightly sweaty when ridden. She has started to shed her coat and its obviously making a mess so clipping would help that aswell. Do you think iy would be accseptable to full clip her now?

I fully clipped my cushings horse week before last,he was really hairy after growing out his autumn clip & it's just easier to manage him at the correct temperature if he's clipped & rugged appropriately.

I have never done a clip this late but I am contemplating it for the first time ever. Just bothered as I like mine to be out naked in the summer. If I do it now I'm worried it will take forever to grow back. She still has the 'ghost blanket clip' of october!

I clip my little ones in summer but i wouldn't do my big horse now cause he will be going out 24/7 soon and i don't want to have to do the rug dance! Next winter i plan to fully clip him though. like everything. Its all coming off. Might just about leave his eyelashes lol

Does it not affect their summer coats? Mine are well into moulting so their summer coats must be coming through - can the lines still be seen in, say, June?

Clipping makes no difference to the coat. If your vet comes and clips a little patch it grows back.

I will be clipping this weekend as I do not 'do' moulting ;-)

I'm clipping mine this weekend as on Saturday he got so sweaty (from not doing much) that he decided to get down and try to roll with me on board!

I only do partial clips so I am worried about messing up the coat. But as my girl has got older she hangs onto it and it's not as nice and thin as it once was. Even the clipped part that is growing out has weird long hairs in it. She gets very sweaty doing nothing much work since it got warmer. Just I was always told not to do it now I'm at odds with myself lol

Has she been tested for Cushings?

If i have got mine with a blanket and she's moulted heaps but if i fully clip her will the as yet unclipped stuff be a different shade from the already clipped hair?

Im worried about clipping now as i like her to be out 24.7 from around beginning of august and then out naked asap. Would that be possible if i clipped her now ?

I did mention it to vet but they didn't think it was something to worry about yet. She is fine in all other aspects. The coat is definetly getting more ott each winter though. Very shiney but too much! Wasn't like that years ago.

Weird long hairs are called pig hairs and usually indicate the horse is a bit too cold.

I was hoping she will be out naked in june as im going away. Do ypu hink that could happen if i cliped her now?
