Just looking for some advice, Cob has still got rather alot of winter coat on his belly and over his back. Nothing medical I.e cushings as all been checked out, vet put it down to weed weather!

It's not coming out with shedding blade, furminator etc. and isn't budging! He gets ridden everyday and is getting very hot an sweaty under it all, so need to get rid! Can I just clip it off? If I use the longer setting on the clippers? If not anything else I can do?

Also what can I do coming into winter to stop it getting so thick? Hell have a chaser clip and be double rugged and in on a night, anything else you can do?

Thanks in advance!

I have made the decision to do a full clip this week. She sheds well and has a beautiful summer coat, but gets very wet and sweaty. It has to come off!

Mine is borderline cushings and not on medication yet ! I'm going to have to possibly clip soon because his winter coat has started to grow back after having a beautiful summer coat for about 3 weeks :(
Problem I have us he is an old man 34 I don't want him getting cold at night as doesn't like a rug on in summer he will dump it a corner of the field somewhere so going to hold out as long as possible .
If your horse is younger then I'd just go for it , a chaser clip is perfect .

I have a very hairy cob and did a full clip last Saturday, including legs and mane! He gets too hot otherwise.

One of my ponies has cushings but before he started on meds I used to clip him in the spring/ early summer and he always seemed to regrow a nice summer cost. Now he's on meds he seems to shed ok.

I had this issue last week with my ID gelding. Still had a perfect clip and plenty winter coat. On Saturday they moved in to their summer grazing and by Monday his winter coat was completely gone. I was very surprised when I brought him from the field. I was at the point where I was going to clip him.

I did a full clip on Titchy last week, I'm not sure it was winter coat particularly, his summer coat was really thick as well. Have to watch if they are pink pigmented, for sunburn. Titchy went completely mental after his clip and hyper sensitive to everything (bucked my daughter off four times this week ). Clearly he prefers life with an extra inch of padding all round :o he looks smart but I don't think I will be doing it again!!
