Clipping - probably a stupid question but

Usually you tighten them up nicely, then undo them 1 1/2 turns. I suppose if they weren't cutting properly you could try tightening/loosening them a little to see if it helps though. Trial and error I imagine as all clippers are slightly different.

The tension depends on the type of clippers you have. Lister Clippers always have to be tightened fully then the knob turned back 1.5 turns, woolsey have to be fully tightened and then loosened until you hear a drop in the sound when the clippers are running. If the blades get really hot very quickly you prob have them too tight and if they start moving or do not cut the coat then they are too loose.
 
Tension depend on the type of clipper you have. If you do them up too tight, they will over heat and become blunt quickly. Too loose and they will not cut properley.
