Clipping -pros and cons ??

Summer coat can be a problem on a last clip, If you need to clip late winter/spring time. To be honest ive never really had a problem.
Pro's pony wont get all hot and sweaty then cold and at risk of a chill after exercise, you wont have to spend time cooling down and waiting for a horse to dry off before tuning back out or whatever you do. That said there are some very good rugs which can be thrown onto a hot sweaty horse saving a lot of hassle.
Cons- Horse's or ponies will need a bit of extra TLC. Decent rugs and possible stabling depending on the type of clip you choose.
Its really down to what you intend to do with your horse over winter as to wether its worth removing his natural protection or not.
I clip, Its my preference I find it easier to manage a clipped horse than non- clipped. (I also suffer asthma so prefer not to have a hairy moulting beast come spring!)

I assume OP is thinking of clipping over winter and is thinking of next summer?

In general...

Pros:
- easier/possible to keep horse clean (enough to ride!)
- can prevent chills if horse sweats during exercise in cold weather
- looks smart (many think)

Cons:
- time consuming to do (espec. if you need to get horse used to clippers too)
- looks bad (my personal opinion)
- horse will need rugging
- care must be taken re: exercise rugs etc in cold weather

others will be along with additions to the lists!

Personally if the horses workload warrants it I would always clip. Even a bib clip will, in my opinion, make the horse more comfortable during and after sweaty work.

That's just my personal opinion. Last year my boy had an adaptation of a blanket clip and it suited him perfectly. He was alot more comfortable after work and it made moulting time alot easier in the spring!!
