Clipping question??

I hate fur, really hate it, I'm the kind of person that likes to take every little bit of fluff off of my horses because I just don't like it.
My coloured has been clipped all winter, rugged upto the eyeballs and all of a sudden he is wooly on his neck.

My mum has a rule of always stopping clipping at the end of Feb.
But...my horse is fluffy and it is upsetting me, and I was wondering if anybody else is still clipping now, and will it ruin my horse's summer coat if I clip him??
 
Oh no deff don't want to be clipping in summer, although he is by no means fab we do like to have a crack at some of the local coloured classes so his coat has to look quite good. Damn, mother is right then!!
 
No! Take it off. When I competed my horse I always clipped him out end of March beginning of April and never had a prob with his coat. A new horse to our yard got clipped on Monday she was soo wooly and scurfy and now looks 10 times better ( even had a bath yesterday in warm water ) Go for it

I would say go for it, especially if he is like a woolly bear! I dont think that it will ruin his coat at all. If he is still growing his coat, you may find that his summer coat grows in slightly thinner or finer than it would normally, but at least he wont be sweating in the heat. My chap will be clipped all year round this year. He was fully clipped about a month ago and virtually has a full coat again.

We have this question come up alot. It is fine to clip anytime you like. The hair will continue to grow whether you clip or not and the summer coat will be unaffected.
 
Not clipping after Feb/March is a load of rubbish. I clipped Flo until May last year and she had the most beautiful summer coat. A lot of people even clip all year. I'm the same as you and mine that are in work are fully clipped, legs and heads and everything

my rule is if it's moulting leave it alone if its not clip it

but then i'm also lazy and rarely clip anyway! LOL

Seriously if he isn't moulting yet then his summer coat won't be underneath so go for it.

Dan is shedding hair by the handful despite only wearing a rain sheet and there are definite patches of summer coat showing through and Fleur is also starting to moult although no where near the same pace even with two rugs!! clippers won't be touching them again until October/November time now!
 
Oh yes, Rob's yard clip all year round but that is not what I want to do at all, I want him to have a lovely summer coat. Ok, off it comes then!! Want him smart for sunday's teamchase!!
 
i clip my lady all year round, but she grows it all year as well, despite being rugged very heavily. she doesn't have cushings and her coats not curly, it just doesnt stop growing - it for her comfort really. i gave her a hunter clip yesterday (blanket would take too much time, and i didnt have time to do legs and full head!) as she was so warm, i wouldnt have been able to ride her without getting sweaty, so off it came!
