I Must be amateurish and old fashioned, mine are left natural as I will not let any 1 touch my horses tails/ manes with scissors- clippers-mane combs etc.

My mare would not agree with you, you would be put into orbit if you tried to pull her tail and who can blame her? if someone tried to pull my hair out a few at a time I would put them into orbit too-I have clipped hers before and have since been asked to do many others as people have thought it is pulled and it looks smart-currently my mare is a scruffy hippo. I pull one tail at work as the mare does not mind and in fact does not like the clippers on her dock but the others are left natural or clipped

Alas I haven't any decent pics showing my lad's tail, but it was 20 years ago. I would have pulled it conventionally but he got terribly upset so I didn't bother. I 'scissored' his mane short too for the same reason (a bit like solo combing but with a small sharp knife).

I have now moved over to the dark side and prefer full, unplaited tails!
 
don't have any photos as have not thought to take them, the five I have done this year have either been sold on (2) or roughed off due to being broken (2) or roughed off due to being turned away for a break (my one).

I will try to remember to take photos if I do anymore this year and look through old photos to see if there are bum shots

Yup . . . and me. I have seen several clipped/scissored tails and they looked horrendous and very bog-brushy . . . I'd love to see a credible alternative to pulled.

Mine are outside all day in the winter, 24/7 in the summer, and I think they appreciate full tails all year. I plait when competing, after arriving at the show, so they don't have an uncomfortable journey, or rub it out.
 
I'm on holiday but back next Saturday, I will gladly stick a photo up of my lovely neat , none bog brush looking shaved tail :-)

For now you will have to wait but it will be worth it I promise lol 😉

That's great, both myself and Twiggy2 have promised that we can do it but cannot come up with any pics at the mo, makes us look a bit dodgy ;)!

We always plait Kal's tail when we get to a competition (not a hunt, he's far too wired!) . . . if we plaited before we left he would rub it to bits in the lorry, and tail bandages/guards only rub his delicate little bottom. Plaiting takes about two minutes and he looks really smart.

Tails ill give you, but the thought of getting to a one day show and having to start sewing a load of mane and tail plaits in leaves me cold!
 
Yes, I clip (at the sides) and razor in the top and waist. No, it doesn't look like a bog brush. I don't always have the time to plait if we have an early class, and I find clipping a much easier option that is free from discomfort for the horse. I used to pull - most horses didn't like it and I disliked the blood spots it often brought up. I wouldn't go back to pulling now. I show at County level and if done properly you cannot tell the difference.
 
I quite often plaited tails at the event too. It doesn't take long and relaxes me as much as the horse! My current horse and previous two ponies travelled fine with a plaited tail with a bandage over it (just unroll to take off, don't pull off as you would usually take a tail bandage off!) and then I just folded the end up at the show.
 
I used to hate having my eyebrows plucked which in my book is pulling and can't bear to pull my girl's tail so I cut it.
I've been asked a few times to pull tails for other people and they are surprised when I say it's cut not pulled :)
 
Long time lurker here coming out of the woodwork to respond to requests for pics...I love how my boy's tail looks, never even thought it weird before to clip (his tailed was clipped before I got him and I carried on doing it). He is generally fully clipped out, hogged and legs clipped as well. A few photos - clipped tail haters feel free to bash! :D

Don't like the clipped tail....but LOVE the handsome horse! Very stunning:) and the hogging suits him, so I suppose the tail sort of fits, but still prefer unclipped tails.

Pretty much my feelings too.

I think that a clipped tail doesn't look as bad if the mane is hogged generally. I can understand more why those with cobs that have lots of feather do clip, as there is a lot more to pull.

I'm still interested to see more pics. When I bought my mare her previous owner had pulled her tail using scissors, and it looked great, I wouldn't have known. Would love to know how to do it myself.

Pulled with scissors? Do you mean cut with thinning scissors?
