Hi, just wandering if any one uses anything to mark an outline on their horses coat before clipping them ?? Lat year I tried the chalk technique ( was my first attempt at clipping ) but it just didnt work and the chalk didnt even mark his coat..i ended up uneven and wonky! .. is there another tip im missing? I would be really grateful to any tips / advice ..i would like to attempt a chaser clip this year ..thanks x x

only thing you can really use is chalk

the blocks you buy to make them nice and white works best , you can also get different colors that may show up better on your horse

its just takes practice really to get the lines right ,take your time and don't clip to close to your chalk line at first then if its not straight you can afford to take some more off :)

liquid chalk!
go to art shop and buy chalk pen - chunky ones work best. its water soluble and you clip it off anyway or brushes out in couple days. I have them at work to do blackboards with so just use them - brilliant!

I'm going to get shot down, but I have always used children's non toxic felt tip pens!

Work wonders, cheap, and make a very clear line... I'm running away now...

Chalk is very difficult to see - sometimes helps to wet the chalk. Otherwise anything - even a marker pen and just make sure you clip just above line so it goes.....

I also find a piece of baler twine useful then you can do one side and then measure with twine from spine down to clip line and then same on other side...

Powedered chalk, then wet it so you get a runny paste (mix it in seperate mug), cut a slant across a new hoof oil brush with a sharp pair of scissors and your good to go.

If I'm doing a hunter I use one of our 12h pony's numnah's - just leave it sitting on their backs and clip round - the tiny numnah is smaller than the big horses' saddles!

Tailors chalk (from a sewing shop) works well - easier to see than chalk.

For everything other than a hunter, I don't bother with lines - seems to work out ok if I just do it!
