As title really - when clipping out, where do you start? do you do your lines first? just interested as to how people get going.

Also I have a set of Lister Stablemate clippers, no longer manufactured as far as i know, but the blades do seem to get hot very quick, should i be oiling them more frequently?

Hiya, this depends on the horse you are clipping, mine doesn't like his bum being done so I start there as by the time you get to the end he's bored and fidgety anyway! I would start around the shoulder on a horse I hadn't clipped before to see how they were going to cope, that way you can adjust the type of clip you're going to according to how they react, some might only get a bit off the neck and shoulders!!! If you start somewhere in the middle and they won't let you finish it could look bad!

I alway start on there shoulder to check they are ok even on my horse I do all the time. On my boy I do his belly first both sides as he hates it when they get hot and tiggle. Then I do his face lines and leg lines. Then go to the front and work my way back.

I have a habit of always doing there nearside 1st

With regards to the blades getting hot, I have a small container of diesel (used petrol for years but other half tells me it could ignite!) that I put the blades in, whilst they are running, about every ten minutes and oil at same time as well, this keeps them cool.

Like everyone has said, shoulder to make sure they are happy with being clipped. I like to do as much face as is coming off, then tickly/sensitive areas like armpits, tummy , between the chest and 'personals'. This is to get tricky areas done when the clippers are as cold as possible, my arms arent tired and the horse isnt fed up! I would also do near the mane if it was a full clip in case of later fidgets. I do bottoms last as despite all the best grooming in the world , they can be greasy and blunt blades. I also prefer for them to not stand around with naked freshly clipped bums, it just looks too chilly!

Hi, start at the shoulder to make sure there ok with clipping, then do the legs and head first so not got a fed up horse trying to do the fiddly bits the get the body done, that way the horse isnt there freezing while im trying to do the fiddly bits, also im bored within 20 mins so my concentration isnt as good so if all lines ect is done its not quite as bad.

Ditto that entirely - leave the easy bits for the end :D
