My boy is a big hairy cob who I clip all year round. I have clipped him twice this winter but was going to give him another going over mid January. A couple of people have looked very shocked at this - I assume that this is because normally you don't clip horses when their summer coat is thinking about coming thorough and therefore its not a problem to me as I clip all year round - but now self doubt is starting to set in

Is there any other reason I shouldn't clip mid Jan?

Don't think so. I used to clip my hairy monster in March as his summer coat got later and later as he got older and he'd sweat really badly if left.

Clip away!

No reason what so ever to not clip in january. My lad will have his last (hopefully) clip towards the end of jan. I have clipped late feb and not found any issue with affecting summer coat. Just another horse world myth.

Depends if you show and the colour of your horse. I have a coloured, so can get away with clipping all year if needed, as you can tell she has been clipped after a week or so, as never get clipped lines.
