Hi all

When is everyone clipping their horses?

I was considering clipping Paddy this weekend or the first weekend of October (have a show the weekend in the middle), would it be too soon and would it be ok for shows?

He does inhand showing but there would only be roughly 4 shows before the 2012 season

I don't plan to do mine until I get back from my hols, mid/late October. I'm hoping to leave him in the field for a couple of weeks to get muddy, hairy and generally have a bit of a break then I'll clip when I get back. He'll start coming in at night then, too.

Can't comment on clipping for showing shows though, sorry.

Don't usually do until Oct/Nov time but I've had to take all his neck & belly out yesterday as he gets soooo sweaty when competing (jumping/xc)! It started out as a bit of an experiment to see if I could do without vet sedating & he was pretty good so got done what I could!!

I clipped my dartmoor pony on Friday morning and have rugged him up quite heavily. I find that clipping before his coat gets out of hand leaves no clipping marks and rugging up makes him super shiny, he is black and I find that if I leave it later it doesnt seem to be a nice black it goes a bit mousy. also its easier on the clippers! I am quite pleased with how he looks he has a show on 24th, and I was thinking I didnt want to bath him and for him to take ages to dry, or sweat up in the ring and look messy. He is very shiny and happy now!

Buffy will be clipped first weekend in October with a blanket clip, and if I make a hash of it she will be clipped again the weekend after :D
Then I usually leave it until late Feb/beginning of March and fully clip her out as I HATE moulting!
