So as my mare isnt in foal its time to clip!

Has anyone else clipped yet? When do you normally clip? Are your horses good?

I shall post some before and after pictures this evening....not looking forward to being covered with fluff if I am honest....
 
No, I'm holding off as long as possible, if at all.

Last time I clipped was 2010 and we had a god awful winter and hardly rode, but I still had the hassle of rugging. This year I'm letting nature take its course, she will be dried off if really sweaty and chucked back out to roll in the mud.
 
Um, I was just thinking about this. We did xc training last Sunday (it was very very warm!) and she ended up practically sweating from her eyeballs! I have a xc comp this Sunday and as I need to hog her mane again (getting rather fluffy) I was wondering if I should just clip her out. I don't usually clip this early, mainly because it grows back so damn quickly - suppose a low trace wouldn't harm but I tend to be an "all off" girl!! ;-)

She is coming in at night now anyway so wouldn't make that much difference to my routine.

Anyone else bothered yet? I suppose it does come down to the type of coat they are carrying at the moment and the level of work,

Did my first neck and belly clip in the middle of August but it grew back so quickly so I've clipped again on Monday - just neck and belly again but the rest will probably have to come off in a couple of weeks depending on just how sweaty he gets.
 
My mare is mega fluffy- like how much fluff she usually has in October. So I will be getting it all off possibly at the weekend.
My spotty boy isnt too bad but had a lesson with him Monday and he was so sweaty! So will take it all off him possibly next week.
 
Nope none of mine are sporting their winters fluffs yet. I don't normally clip till October/November if I can get away with it :)
 
Used to clip nowish when I competed, now I tend to trace clip in Nov then full clip when in at night in dec. Mines a sweetheart, doesn't need tying up, helps out by squaring up if you stand behind with clippers, lifting front leg when you get to elbows. Frequently let kids/teens have a go under my supervision. Daughters had her first trace clip with half a head last winter as a 4yr old, good as gold really. She's a bit of a fidget anyway but I'm pretty quick. Couldn't see her behaving if I needed longer than 20mins. This year she'll have a full clip but with half a head, no reason to think she won't behave. And, I have to admit that 7yr old daughter requesting we leave a love heart on her quarters!
 
Mine was fully clipped out on Saturday as we had a clinic on Sunday and are mock hunting this weekend. He got very sweaty at the clinic so glad I did!
 
Okay came in for a quick drink between the farrier and clipping! (not that I am trying to put it off.....)

Interesting how everyone has different views, I couldnt imagine leaving the orange one till nov! Here is a pic of her now. My young horse on the other hand will be fine for a good few weeks!

ignore how donkey she looks! Just had a break from attempting to be a brood mare and her neck looks long here!

Crikey! she is hairy! have you had some cold spells? My boy is never without a rug on of some sort, mainly to save on grooming but also because it keeps his hair growth at a minimum. He still has an all over summer coat- hasnt even started moutling yet which Im very pleased about. Will start using the heavier rugs asap to put off clipping as much as possible- I hate clipping its such a faff!

Im half way through and came in for lunch....

She has been out since before easter as was planning on breeding.
For some reason she hasnt taken although tests show she is prefect everytime! She has had a sheet in very wet weather and naked the rest of the time. Clipped, rugs and work from now! My other one isnt fluffy enough yet but is rugged as been in work.
 
She looks so much tidier! I'm not clipping my TB until next month as he hasn't yet got too fuzzy, will be a trace clip or chaser clip as he likes to keep his back warm :) My Anglo Arab I won't bother clipping as he has a ridiculously thin coat anyway.
 
No clipping for me this year :D :D :D I HATE clipping with a passion, so am more than happy to pay someone to do it. Only exception is my chestnut, I wouldn't let anyone else do him as he is horrific, but as he's retired now I don't need to clip.

Yuk. Hate clipping! :mad:

I thought that, this one normally fluffs early but it was much thicker this year! Not sure if its due to being out or a sign of a cold winter
 
I might be on my own here but I quite enjoy clipping! It basically gives me peace and quiet and time to wander off into my own wee world in my head! Plus after the first 3 or 4 of th day you become deaf and don't have to listen to anyone else moaning, whinging and being annoying. And th best bit? You can completely ignore people because 'you can't hear them over the noise of the clippers' :D :D :D

Which reminds me - I need to get proper overalls this year!
 
I'm with you EKW, I actually enjoy clipping. I just hate & despise the cleaning up after, from the floor, the clippers & myself. Before now I have happily done a quick trace or bib on a well behaved pony for free, in exchange for someone cleaning the clippers, sweeping up etc. I'd rather do several full clips & not clean up than one trace & clean up. What's weirder is that I normally quite like sweeping & tidying.
 
Mine will be having the same as yours tomorrow...everything off. Then he'll be done every 2/3 weeks :( that way it only takes me half an hour per clip. If I leave it longer it takes me forever to clip. This is actually the first summer that I haven't clipped him as well as he's actually had a lovely summer coat for once.

I'm very vain and I hate any clip less than a hunter/full clip. Mine is in Medium work though (working Adv Medium) so is justified :p

/i hate leaving furry bits too! Its always all off! Yes I clip every few weeks too to keep them smart

Ha! Snap! I hate it. Really hate it. I think that's my plan this year (to pay someone) and I can justify it to myself as my clippers broke last year ;)

I'd be interested to hear what the going rate is for various clips, if anyone has any idea? :)

i think last year I got 70 for a full (ish) I did a few full clips for people and I got that in return (I didnt ask), I think they were generous though. I normally charge 50 for a full, and go down from there
 
My mare will be getting a blanket clip and I will get someone to do that. Average price for a blanket clip from an outside person seems to be £25/30 :)

Puppy, the person I'll probably use charges £40 for a full clip and that includes travel etc.
