When is the best time of the year to get horses clipped?

Iv been told by a couple of people that the end of summer is the time to clip as otherwise it can ruin the growth on the summer coat.

Any pointers would be great!

I showjump, therefore don't have to worry about a show coat!

But we clip around September/October depending on the horse's coat! Once they get some winter coat we clip, but this varies by horse!

We usually double rug before this though to try and stop as much growth as possible.

I usually do my last clip in January so that the clip grows out in time for showing season however this year the summer coat has taken ages to come through and finally just losing the clip now. However some people clip all year round, personal preference and depends on how fast your coat comes through.

From experience we clip the Hairy cobs all yr round. Even for showing you just have to watch how close to a show u clip in case of tram lines.
