Clipping.....

My boy has got a lovely shiny summer coat come thru, but as usual it is VERY thick - he gets horrendously sweaty when I ride, when travelling, and even sweats up standing in the stable. I would like to clip him this weekend, whilst it is still reasonably warm (obviously can rug if it gets chilly at night) .Am anxious about flies BUT do not want to fly rug him ALL summer as I like my horses to have a good period of the year unrugged - ie would like enough of his coat to have grown back in next 4-6 wks or so that he wouldn't need a fly rug. - I am competing every other weekend and he is ridden 5-6 times a week so I can justify it as far as his workload goes. BASICALLY, the question is, do I clip or not????

I don't see why not - depends if you want to show him - his summer coat probably won't look as good when it grows back as it would if you didn't clip. I would think it would improve fly situation, as hot horse = sweat = flies. If you don't want to show I would clip him, yes.
