As above really- every year on the clock change we bring in at night as by the time we've ridden its too dark to find the fields to turn them out etc/fields start to need resting at night. Anyone else do the same? Just being nosey really.

horses at our yard came in today-unforetuneatley mine lives out :P
thankfully she's moved into a new field as of tomorrow with haylage!

i feed and bring in and generally finish up just before it goes dark, irrespective of the actual time. so, yesterday it was at about 6.15pm, today at about 5.15 pm ish. in december it'll be at about 3.45pm, (late stables always at 10), in high summer at about 8pm so i can have some kind of social life!

We usually change before clock-change, but each year it's been later and later. This year YO has been away and has told us to do what we want as long as we're leading up and down the road in the light and safely. So two of us changed over a week ago due to work and child related commitments, one of us changed this weekend (only because I forced her to, it wasn't safe before as she was leading her horse down the road in the dark with a flourescent sheet on, thinking that'd be fine...) and two of us (or more rather, two of *them*), are still turning out at night. Much to the annoyance of the rest of us as their field is in the way of our fields, and they refuse to bring in earlier/ turn out later (despite the fact that one of them doesn;t work and the other works fairly flexible hours). YO is back tonight though so hopefully she'll put her foot down, assert her authority and make them belt up and stop being so awkward!
Anyway sorry I got a bit side-tracked there on my little rant

Short answer = yes!

my two came in tonight-pouring down bothstood looking unhappy and came racing in!lol.
may leave them out if we get another dry spell but can afford to let the field get muddy!not this early anyway

Really go on weather/state of field - they came in for the first time tonight at 8.00 as we had rain and gales last night and the field is beginning to look a bit skinned. They've been out unrugged until a few days ago as its been so warm here. They didn't want to come in tonight - normally I just open gate and they walk in to the stables but I had to lead them in. Hopefully there won't be any door banging in the middle of the night as Mr. Connie decides he wants to go for a lark in the field. If I had another couple of acres I'd put in a field shelter and leave them out all the time - though I do think they like to come in and lie down to sleep on a dry bed when winter really sets in.

I hate the hour going back -its like the real beginning of winter.

As so many of the other replies ShadowM, just depends on the weather really. It threw it down here the last couple of days and horses were all really keen to come in. But this afters it brightened up a bit and the sun came out so they will be out 24/7 for a few more days yet. But I think the weather is set to turn wet again by next weekend so will have to take it day by day. Just in case, they've all been wormed as a precaution anyway, as they move to the winter grazing fields when they start coming in for the night!

Just been out to check on boyos' first night in stable - both quiet and content and covered in shavings. Its worse than having children - peeping in to see if they're asleep!
