"Clock change" -- benefit or hindrance to the horse world?

BBC News Online are reporting that the Local Government Association believes that lives would be saved if Britain's whole time system was shifted forward an hour -- winter would be GMT +1, equivalent to British Summer Time and Summer Time would be GMT +2.

If this ever came into effect do you think this would be a help or hindrance to the horse world and why?

That would be fantastic, no more rushing about in semi darkness on bridleways, lead riding in the mud to keep the hunters hunting fit. Dont think it will ever happen though!
 
Well it would be no good for me, I'd never be able to get the horses turned out before uni/ work as we have to lead down a short stretch of road. I'm SO glad it's lighter in the mornings now as it's so much easier to get them out on time instead of hanging around and being late for lectures!
 
I've never been in favor of messing with the clocks. Lighter in the morning or evening matters little, there's still the same amount of light hour in the day. main thing tonight at the stables was that no one had told the horses that the clocks had changed....they couldn't understand why they were having to wait an extra hour or so later than normal to have their tea.
 
Ahh I weaned all of my guys onto the clock changing - I started about a week ago and made their feeding times slightly later every day so that it wasn't such a shock to their system.
 
To be honest, I couldn't care if it stayed dark until midday, so long as I get the light in the evening. As it is, I get up in the dark, I arrive at work in the dark, and I don't see the outside world again until I leave the office at 5pm...and now it's dark then too

Totally agree Rambo - when you're stuck in an office all day & don't even take a lunch break, your only opportunity of seeing some daylight is at the weekend! Too miserable for words...

Toby - as someone who says it doesn't matter as it's the same number of daylight hours, I guess you don't have a full time job on set hours!
 
I also have to turn out / bring in down a road (about half a mile). On the occassions that I'm on my own & its dark at either end of the day, Hi Viz gear & a torch with a flashing light solve the problem.
 
Would love to have that tiny bit extra light in the evening and I think it would make a huge amount of difference to most of the horse owners!

I dread the clocks changing in october!

I managed to get out riding again this morning (light enough to go through the fields at 6.30am) so not too bothered about the clock change - have lost evenings but gained mornings for a few more weeks.

Agree with Rambo though - would be perfectly happy if it was dark until lunch if we could get out riding in the evenings all year round.

Doesn't matter too much at the moment (just doing dressage / SJ - they can tick along on about 3 rides a week) but 3 horses to get fit for spring eventing and we have no school at our yard. I am lucky to be able to borrow one 10 mins box drive away but it does eat up all my time!
