I noticed after riding today that my horse had caught the inside of each hoof on the coronet band behind. No actual damage but you can see the scuff marks. I haven't had him that long, but never considered his action behind to be that close. Any ideas why he'd have done this now when its never happened before and is why I've seen some horses out with brushing boots on hind feet?

My share horse does this, he isnt close behind when stood up square, but when ridden he scuffs his hinds together and can hurt himself when jumping/lunging or lateral work.

Brushing boots dont work as he brushes too low, so he wears overreach boots behind. They work perfectly :D

HMMM should have re read this before i posted.... meant to say ....is this why I've seen some horses out with over-reachers on hind feet.... definitely too low for brushing boots. Any draw backs to over reachers behind?

My mare is a bit close behind so I always use a sausage ring on one of her hind pasterns. I find it is better than an over reach boot. But like everything, it is a matter of personal preference and what works for your horse.

lol, no drawbacks just he goes through the rubber ones very quickly which is ok as they are fairly cheap. I got some neoprene ones for him for xmas and they have already worn away the layer of material on top. I was advised to try professional choice ballistic ones but at £35 they are a bit steep if hes only going to trash them.....Im going to try Woof wear Kevlar overreach next I think, should be alot stronger and costs the same

ETA just read TicTacs post, we did try a sausage/rubber ring/boot but it didnt work for him where as the OR do :)
