Hi,

In the last 12 months, I have got back on board after a 36 year absence and am considering going to a few low level/novice competitions & shows. My query is what to wear? It was simple in my pony club days, jods, jodphur boots, hacking jacket, collared shirt, pony club tie, job done.

Is tweed ok or does it have to be a dark jacket? What sort of shirt? I would certainly prefer something understated as I don't want to look "all the gear no idea"

I have Ariat Bromont H20 boots in black and presume they are ok.

Any advice welcomed.......!

Think it depends what you're doing and where! For most competitions things haven't changed much. If in doubt a tweed jacket will be fine and (better than a dark one). Boots come in a variety of shapes these days and even short boots and gaiters seem to get by. A school shirt (from one of the major chains) is the cheapest way of finding one able to fit a tie and they come in long or short sleeves. If local RC you may be able to wear a dressage type shirt with a stock. In my view well fitting clean clothes even if older create a more workmanship look than the latest synthetic fabrics which don't quite fit! Good luck whatever you try, I'm sure you'll enjoy once you get going again.

Great thanks - that's helpful. I will only be doing local shows - fun stuff so at least I have a good idea of what I need to buy (& what I don't)!
