I was out shopping today at local tack shop today and could not help but notice horsey peoples clothing is so pricey, I know its nice and fashionable but do you think its worth it ?
I think for how filthy it gets that its not worth spending a fortune on horse branded products whe you can buy similar for cheaper. I stick to shops like primark etc for vest tops t shirts in summer and fleeces in winter
If you shop carefully in the sales, given that some branded stuff lasts forever it works out far cheaper than 'cheap' stuff. I've just relegated a nice long sleeve tshirt I got for about £2 in Primark last year for £2 to tack cleaning duty as the seam has come apart on the stitching, and the fabric has run so I can't stitch it up again. While reflecting on the fact it'd only lasted a year I realised the Joules sweatshirt I was wearing was bought at just over half price in a sale has been worn and washed at least once a week for the past 4 years and still looks like new, so actually works out cheaper per wearing. I've also got 4 stripy rugby shirts of the 'Cotton club' brand that my EX bought me the second Christmas we were together (he bought it in 4 colourways as he couldn't decide which I'd like best). This means they're 20 years old, and they're also worn pretty much every week apart from the height of the summer.
I buy stuff from Dunnes, I got a shower proof jacket for 15 out of there, the same/similar in a tack shop is at least 50. I also got a fleece for 12 same thing in tack shops is at least 30.
I love Joules - could not justify the cost before but have recently succumbed to my craving for it.
Hardly wore anything horsey label really... that said I do have a very dirty Caldene jacket that needs sorting out (dry clean only - why do they do that!), several breeches, and I even wore a non-horsey Guess gillet out riding (so perfect for riding though!).
However, my most expensive horse clothes were two custom-made breeches with full leather seats - real thick leather, not the thin ones... they cost over £150 each. I heard they were supposed to last years!!! and you know what happened??? OH put them into the dryer!!! End of story, end of breeches!
