You know what - I'm not even that bothered if it is ugly. I just hope that my darling little pony is well afterwards and that it has the same lovely temperament of her mother and her father. They are both VERY special little horses to me.
Aw Tia you are not wrinkled so stop it lol.
That is a sad tale about your horses about the stallion and Cloud
I hope the foal will be as special as his/her mum Cloud
and for your sakes too I am hoping it will be a filly as it would be nicer to have a filly to remember her mum by I would have thought than a colt ( just me being sentimental I know, but that's what I am like).
Anyway I hope the foal is healthy and the mum gets to spend a lot of time with him/her
It's not so sad really. The stallion survived and is doing quite well now. He'll never be 100% right, but that's okay. I'll never sell him and I will only do whatever he is capable of doing. He's quite nice to ride actually but he is VERY slow at moving, bless him.
Cloud will not be pegging it for a few years - so she'll alwasy be with us for as long as she will have us. We've had her for 10 years so she will be here till the end of her days.....hopefully that will be many many years away.
And then we will have her baby (yes I think a filly would be fitting
). It'll just be a mish-mash foal, worthless to anyone else, but will be very special to us. So it's quite nice really.
She's had it for about 4 years now and it has grown in this time but funnily enough it seems to have slowed down in the last year. It is a fairly large area to one side of her head just under her ear. I don't forsee her leaving us for a number of years but the fact she has it was definitely something that I considered when my daughter persuaded me to breed her.
Its where you tie a nail on a piece of string and hold it over a pregnant mare. Nail spins one way to indicate a colt and the other way for a filly (can't remeber which way is which).
It's where you tie a nail/screw to a piece of string. You hold the string over the mare's pelvis and if it swings up along the spine then it is supposed to be a colt, but if it turns in a circle anti-clockwise then it is supposed to be a filly. I don't know if it works (and there are many cynics on here LOL!!) but thought it might be fun if we all did it to see whether there is some truth in it or if it is complete and utter bollox.

You thought I was going to look like this .... didn't you!!

Thank heavens you've shown your real pic at last. I knew that other woman wasn't you, as, a) she's wearing a pink top, and you are not a pink person, and b) the pink top is ironed...
Cloud is looking really well Tia, and I have my fingers crossed for a smooth delivery.
You know I just knew some sharp eyed person would notice the "alleged" ironing that took place......it wasn't actually .... the sweater is always like that LOL!! No idea why but it is permanently like that - I've never ironed it.....but it is pink LOL!! Actually I have it on in one of our webpages with a matching pink belt!!
She's lovely. She looks great. It looks like there are quite a few HHO foals due around the same time so I guess there are going to be alot more foalie posts coming up.Are you hoping for a coloured foal?
Oh Tia she looks so content, happy and relaxed. I can really see why she means so much to you! reminds me of my mare Bramble a LOT.
Do you have a pic of Cloud with about 4 months to go? I don't know why, but even though she was scanned in-foal and my mum is convinced she is in-foal, i keep thinking Bramble isn't in-foal.
I'll take some piccies of her later and see what you think. She is a maiden (is Cloud a maiden?) so prehaps thats why.
Thank you everyone for your kind comments. Cloud is a very special little girl and I do hope that all goes well for her. She is so chilled and quite obviously enjoying being pregnant. She is still going out for short gentle rides and seems happy with this.....and the rest of the time she is content to amble around the corral all day. She is a good little pony - never any trouble and that's why I think she will just get on and have this baby without fuss.
Claire - I am treating Cloud as a maiden, as although she has had a foal it was 11 years ago, just before I bought her. She has just turned 14 years old a couple of days ago so I do keep a close eye on her. The picture below was taken on the 3rd December so almost exactly 4 months prior to her due date. Hopefully this will give you an idea of what size yours should be? Just try to not look at the short legs LOL!!
I know. That was always a concern, but thankfully the weather has been a gift to us and I am so happy that I won't have freezing temperatures and rugs to have to deal with too. Phew!
Hopefully this will give you an idea of what size yours should be? Just try to not look at the short legs LOL!!

I thought she was in long grass!
She does look a very sweet mare. Can I just ask, Tia, did the size difference cause a problem, or will it?
Just curious, as i know of a very nice well bred Welsh D that would make a nice daddy for a smaller mare belonging to a friend, but she was worried about the size difference. (15.2 v 13.2)
I wouldn't say so. My stallion had no problems mounting her and she had no problems taking him
. Actually she looked like she was in heaven!!
Generally the main worry with putting a small mare to a much bigger stallion is that he can injure her. I never had any fears over this with my guy as he is the most gentle creature alive......and he is used to being bossed around by all the mares, bless him.
Cloud is really not huge and never has been throughout this pregnancy, mind you she has been ridden throughout which I believe makes a big difference to how the muscles work. Yes she looks well and truly pregnant but not dreadfully bulgy.
The foal right now (whilst inside her) theoretically should be exactly the same size as it would have been had she been covered by a 12.2hh stallion, as the mare generally dictates the size of the foal until it is actually born. There's the odd one or two which don't conform to this, but it really is so rare that it probably isn't worth worrying about; so much more awful things can happen and it is just down in the noise level in my opinion.
I will let you know if she has any trouble delivering in about 25 days, LOL!! I very much doubt that size will be an issue though because as I say, she isn't that huge. She is starting to get ready though - her teats are altering and I have my test-kit ready for when she is close to the due date.
My Anglo-Arab that I bred back in the UK, was out of a 13.1hh Arab and by a 16.3hh eventer. She foaled unaided and had no problems whatsoever. The colt made 15.3hh at full maturity.
If you look at the second picture of Cloud, you may be able to see her lump. It is on her offside and runs from the base of her ear, around the grass glands and then up to her supra-orbital and then back round to her ear again. It isn't huge but it is there.
