Hi, I'm hoping someone can help point me in the right direction with regard to this issue. I met a family yesterday who was looking for help working with their horses. I'm going to be advising them that I am not comfortable exercising/working the horses until they've been seen & given the green light by both a vet and a farrier. They haven't been seen by either in a long time, and I noticed several issues while I was there. I administered de-wormer because they were too afraid to, so who knows how long overdue it was... when I was cleaning the hooves, the soles were very soft & were scraping right off... there was even a spot on the front (toward the toe), right side of one hoof that was very hardened.... it was as if mud/whatever had cemented itself. I kept wanting to scrape it off b/c it looked just like the rest of the dirt, etc. but couldn't. They also have bot fly eggs...
But the main concern I had was with regard to one horse's cloudy/milky eye. It was the right side of the eye, and covered probably 1/4 of the eye. The daughter told me it used to be worse, and they sprayed some kind of acid water (!?! don't know a thing about that, but it sounds pretty awful) and it improved substantially... and has now come back.
I'm trying to figure out if it could be uveitis, or if anyone has heard of anything else it might be. I'm trying to find out as much as I can (if anything) before I contact the family to give my recommendation/advice.
Thanks so much
