My new horse has been with me now 6weeks. Since he came to the farm. We put him in a little paddock with suitable horse grass. Since then. He has demolished the grass (Only small field) So..... I have the winter paddock which I believe is full of the wrong type of pasture (clover and ryegrass). My husband is going to reseed next spring with horse pasture mix. But for the time being this is what I have. In the last week I've been putting him out for a hour in the morning. On a very slim strip. The rest of field has just been mowed (3rd time this year!!!)
he has lost quite a bit of weight (which he needed) and I think he is looking good. I don't want him to balloon out again. Can any one give me some advice, info on how to manage his weight and manage the paddock?? Also what is to be expected of him going on that type of grass. (Grown for hay for cattle)
Thanks
