coat on a puppy

Is this a bad thing to do? Put a coat on a puppy?

My BC puppy is quite small and slim (as i mentioned on another thread). She spends all day outside with me, and some of this can be just sitting around (her, not me :)).

With the weather getting worse i have noticed that she has been shivering a little, so would a little coat be ok?

I would rug a slim horse, does the same apply to a puppy??

LOL of course you can put a coat on her if she is chilly. If I take any of mine out up yard they generally have a coat on, as you say they end up sat around rather than moving about and keeping warm like they would on a walk and they are indoor dogs so obviously they feel the cold. There are some lovely warm rugs/coats out there for dogs...happy shopping! :)
 
Thanks, didnt know if cos shes supposed to be a working dog, coats are not the done thing.
But she isnt working - yet and she is small and cold, so coat it is! Pet shop visit tomorrow :)
 
My very hairy, very tough little terrier puppy has a coat.... :D

OH was determined that she wouldnt have one.... she doesnt exactly need one BUT we were under snow for 2 months last winter and I'm already de- icing the car on a morning so I won!

It is mainly to keep her dry rather than warm.
 
I put a coat on my little terrier for the first time this morning as it was so cold. She loved it and was still able to run around as fast as usual.

Try looking at the dog coats on equestrian clearance. They are well priced. My little girl has one of the Masta deluxe ones in pink and I am really pleased with the fit.
 
Our 7 month old terrier pup has a coat. She's quite short coated so I thought she needed a bit of extra help! She has a little cord jacket for when it's just cold, then she has a 2-in-1 waterproof coat with a detachable fleece lining, so she can wear it when it's wet, and when it's cold and wet. Oh, and she has a little hi-vis vest which is big enough to go over the top of her coat for night time walking :o
