Coat shedding - not looking his best....

My TB is looking really manky at the moment with half his winter coat gone. I was grooming him (aka "covering myself with hair"!!!) a couple of days ago and thought just how "moth-eaten" he is right now!!! I'm leaving him out rugless as much as possible in the hope that he will roll lots to save me the job of extracting it all too!

Who else has got a patchy-pone at the mo???

ETA: By contrast, my WB, who I've just taken on loan is looking stunning! He was clipped a while back so there's not so much full winter coat to shed but he's looking great compared to Roo!!!
 
I have! The moulting is never ending. At least the birds will have lots of hair for nice cosy nests - assuming they want all this hair!!
 
Mine was clipped out during the winter but I still have patchy-itis - her summer coat is coming through on her neck (bright bay), we have a fully fluffy saddle patch and legs (dark bay), and still baldy-clipped on her bum (sort of grey-beige). Nice!

Thankfully a good scrub with some shampoo on the weekend made her shine despite the weird haircut she's got :D
 
You could add some oil into their feeds

I use Feel good range garlic and parsley oil, 2 sqwerts, I also add some sunflower oil at this time of year while his coat is changing
 
Don't worry about it! My old girl (27) grows a coat like a woolly mammoth which takes months to get rid of. Half of it is crumpled and standing up the wrong way, there is loads of loose hair all over her and she looks like a right rag bag. But her coat and eyes are shiny and she is thoroughly enjoying pestering me to give her extra scratching time. You must learn to look behind the mess :)

Mine is a very dark brown bay in the winter, and a copper one in the summer, so he has 2 tone patchy bits where his summer coat is peaking through. Looks horrid.

The little pony (another wooly mammouth), has been loosing hers for months now, and its still really thick. I might have to get the clippers out soon.
 
He's already on Alfa-A Oil with a mugful of BOSS and an additional glug of sunflower oil. P'raps that's why he's had such a good winter coat then!!! :-)
 
mine are moulting like crazy, however i was recommended to get a furminator.

Which i did off ebay for £8... and i used it for the first time yesterday and its really good!!
 
As just mentioned in another post re bald patches on TBs, mine looks a bit like patchwork quilt at the mo! But I am feeling inspired by the shiny new bits of summer coat that have come through. Can't wait for all of him to look like that! I'm not used to hairy horses. My last TB grew no coat at all and hopefully this one won't next year as will be in much better condition and be stabled, suitably rugged and fed unlike this winter (before I bought him I hasten to add!).
 
What on earth is a furminator? Mine is looking so much better now, lots of coat has come out (I love my shedding blade!) although seems to have slowed down a little now there’s a chill in the air (come back sun!)

Have bought him some BOSS to add a bit of sheen to his coat too!
 
I have the same problem. My 29 year old has a very think coat.

But every year since I got her aged 8, she has dumped all her winter coat before her summer coat comes through. If your not carefully she ends up with big patches of no hair at all. I am deperate to give her coat a good brush, but have to be very carefull how much I take off. So she looks like a total mess at the moment, bless her.
 
My Sec D has only just started to change his coat - he clings grimly onto every single hair until he's well and truly convinced summer is on its way...

He does change it fairly quickly though thankfully so I don't have weeks of fur flying everywhere :-) The furry knickers are normally the last thing to go - he obviously wants to protect his man bits (what's left of them hee hee) for as long as possible :-)
 
I have a furminator - very good for getting hair out. However, the handle has broken on mine Twice. Got it changed the first time, handle went in the same place again, now I just hold the head in my hand now.

It's still a good tool.
 
I've heard good things about the Furminator... or rather the cheaper Furminator-TYPE groomer that you can get on ebay ;-). I must invest in one because my black lab is shedding loads too in the house and on beige carpets it drives me to distraction!!!!
 
Well, if you think you have hair problems...I have the hair of an unclipped, ancient shire cross to deal with! I could set up an upholstery business and fill many cushions with all my boys hair! :D

Thank god i'm not the only one! My mare looks awful at the moment, her summer coat is coming through in random patches and is a copper kind of bay colour and her winter coat was very dark bay so she looks like she's got some kind of strange skin disease going on at the moment. It's not a good look! Especially with show season upon us and the 1st one next weekend... dont think we'll be going!
