Bunny met her mum today - mum belongs to someone I went to university with too many years ago.

We were talking about Bunny's littermates. Mum is completely smooth coated, Dad had a very slightly wiry coat and the rest of the litter are all smooth coated. It made me curious about the genetics of coat type and wondered if anyone knew any good information sources. I've had a bit of an internet search but most Information seems to be American.

Any help would be appreciated 🙂

We had a terrier dog with a similar coat to this. He threw puppies of every type of coat and size you can imagine. Lord knows what his ancestry was! He once managed to impregnate a very smart smooth coated terrier bitch (aged 12 and long thought barren) who produced the smartest broken coated terrier you would find, except he was nearly the size of a labrador. We had a couple of litters by him out of a border terrier x small smooth jack Russell who were 18 inch high shaggy black demons. Terrier genetics are a bit of a mystery I think.

Our Parsons terriers have either been rough, or broken coated, I think we did have a couple of smooth coated in one litter but hard to tell at that age
I love a scruffy terrier 😍
