Coats! How many useless winter coats do you hang on to!

Well, I am the proud owner of 7 useless winter coats! Every winter I threaten to get rid of one or two of them, but do I? No! I think I am convinced they will improve over the summer!

I have supposed waterproof ones that leak, despite being re-proofed, warm ones that aren't, breathable ones that are clammy, and ones that are plain uncomfortable! All the zips stick or won't do up.

In yesterday's downpour I got soaked through two of them, and my husband had to help me out of the last one as the zip did stick!

Anyone else out there got as many duff ones but won't get rid of them because they are useful (not!)
 
Yes i can join this one!! I have old faithfull really warm not waterproof and very heavy. A green wax thing that looks the part but never worn as cotton lined and it sticks to your jumper. 2 lightweight waterproof ones that aren't !! One that is only for mucking out?? A puffa gillett crap quality would never buy again. A light blue dublin winter riding coat lovely but forever in the wash. So this week i bought a wsrm padded hi viz jacket... Brill until i realised its a bit sweaty!! Lol so on to the next......

I have a coat / gilet fetish ... Can never have TOO many costs/gilts (they are like rugs, different weights, styles, colours depending on weather :D)

Far too many coats here! One in every colour/thickness (and I thought i was bad with horse rugs!) Quite a lot with broken zips or rips etc that I think I'll get round to repairing...one day!
 
Yep , I have a huge brown Dublin 3 in 1 jacket that the zip has gone on , so I went out and bought another .

So what happened ? Am currently sitting on train into work wearing new one (it only has a tiny bit of feed stuck to one sleeve ) and am still wearing the old one , with a gilet underneath to do the yard work . Why ? Why ?
 
I've just thrown my non-waterproof mac with the hole in the pocket into a skip. I can't think why I didn't throw it out last year, it was no better then.
I've had several Barbour 'jumpers' - when those metal zips stick, there's nothing you can do with them. I am now trying to tell myself that all the other 'emergency coats' in the kitchen aren't really necessary and could go in the skip as well.

lol! I call them 'emergency coats' too
But in my defence i'm preparing for nuclear winter....or perhaps the zombie apocalypse where zombies run away when you throw coats at them? maybe?
 
I also have a collection of hoods that have no coat and sleeves where the gilet has gone walkabout!

I really miss my old Backhouse long brown wax coat. My husband kindly put it over a bag of cement when it was wet and the rest, they say, is history!

I also remember having a sort of yellow musto coat, which went on for years!:D
 
I've still got barbours I brought that still have their tags on and are packed away 'for a rainy day', a fabulous what can only be described as 1970's leather and fur stripper coat :p, brought for fancy dress used once :rolleyes: an afgan that I lovingly keep in good order, numerous riding coats, wet weather dog walking stuff with a variety of holes... really should have a clear out :rolleyes:
 
Guilty

1 hi viz bomber but use this

1 fortress jacket but I use this

1 musto puffer but I use this

1 puffa gillet but I use this

1 regatta waterproof I use this

1 pink regatta broken zip will never replace therefore should chuck

1 hawks head jacket that leaks

1 just toggs I ripped

1 set waterproofs no crotch so should throw

1 set toggi waterproofs I do use

Think that's it.

Lol - I always have the urge to keep coats just in case there is something like a nuclear winter or there is a reversal in the North Atlantic ocean current causing global cooling e.g. Day After Tomorrow :D

I have Mountain Warehouse Jacket that has never been waterproof, and old sailing jacket that is annoying because the pockets velcro shut, an Ariat that I accidently washed in hot water and melted the glue sticking the outer bit to the jacket but it was sooo expensive and I loved it :( A Toggi where the hood keeps detaching from the jacket which is then useless if it is hosing it down, that's probably a one fifth to a quarter of my useless collection :)

I'll stand up at Coat/Gilet anonymous with you too! i have far to many which used to colour co-ordinate with my jods but now i have odd ones but i just cant part with them :-)
 
I worked with someone who had the most ridiculous collection of coats. She was bet that she couldn't wear a different coat at work for a year. Fourteen months later, she was still going strong. Weird or what.
 
Easy answer - do what OH and I did this week and move to 'cosy' digs that mean you HAVE to go cold turkey! Have just spent an evening plotting fleabay domination with virtually every type of outerwear under the sun because if I don't get rid of some of the duplicates, especially the big Rambo down-filled duvet ones, I won't find the furniture again. Or OH. Somewhat painful in places but there can't be a better time of year to try it.

As long as I don't then replace those ones... It's ridiculous; nothing even happens to the ones I duplicate to actually warrant duplicating them - not the best approach...! :(
 
Oh dear,not sure I should confess to my coat sins:o

I will admit I have rather a thing for coats in general,can't resist buying them in the sales etc.

I have before now bought coats for my kids for 2-3 years in advance,just because they were a bargain lol.I quite often find brand new coats in wardrobes that I have put away for when they grow into them,and forgotten about:o

I also have loads of coats for me,useless and otherwise.I probably only actually wear 3-4 of them,but I couldn't possibly part with any as might come in handy one day;)

I have an even bigger addiction to horse coats,but that's a whole other topic that I am in denial about lol
 
I have a KyraK coat. Had it 10 years+ and in fairness, overall the outer of the coat is still in good nick. However, the zip is knackered, the lining is ripped, the sleeves/cuffs are threadbare and it's not as waterproof as it was... I have it folded up in the kitchen and I keep meaning to put it into the bin... but it's not reached there yet. Give it another couple of weeks and I daresay I'll wear it again - just one more winter from it :D
 
Mine tend to move down the pecking order as to where I leave them. When they finally make it to a hook on the far side of the garage the next stage should be the bin. I say should. Only one of them has met that fate & that was put there by husband. I pulled it out & he attacked it with the shears!

He seems to manage with just two, which I thought was admirable, until I realised he only does the horses one day a week! (And that's when I'm with him!)

However, anyone out there with a recommendation for the Holy Grail - that is one that is waterproof, warm, cool, dirt proof, washable and lasts for years!:D
 
I have one coat. That does winter and summer.

and I've had it altleast 5 years, doing horses pretty much everyday, rain sleet or snow, ridden in, shows, dog walking the lot.

Sitting here I can see:

One musto snug - snuggly and warm, ideal for winter riding
One sprayway snug - snuggly and sort-of warm, ideal for when too warm for musto
One lightweight waterproof - new because of spectacular failure of sprayway waterproof
Sprayway waterproof - not waterproof, but could be used in emergencies
Karrimore waterproof with zip in fleece - really scruffy, but warm, used when looks not important
Second karrimore waterproof with zip in fleece - slightly less scruffy than above, but not suitable for anywhere non-horsey/doggy
Wax jacket - useful for cold damp days with no rain due to lost hood
Duffle coat - useful for cold and damp but can't cope with rain
Tweed coat - same as duffle
Toggi down gilet - tired, most of the down is exactly that, shoulders are completely bare
Joules gilet - bought to replace toggi gilet, but nowhere near as good

And they're just the ones downstairs, there's more in the car, wardrobe and downstairs loo. Having just typed this, I'm realising I dont have a warm, waterproof with a hood. I must remedy that...

Interestingly, OH has one coat, a wax jacket, with barely any wax and only just a jacket, and has far less problems deciding what to wear in the morning!
