Please humour me and let me know how much your cobs grew from 4 years? I have bought a 4 year old gelding, who is slightly smaller than I was planning on but he is a sweetheart, I know he will bulk out but can you let me know if yours actually did grow taller as well? Thank you.

They can measure bigger without actually growing. My vet explained that as the shoulder is only attached by muscle, so as they muscle up the body rises. Hence why if you want a life height certificate in a borderline horse, give it a good break and hopefully it will measure slightly smaller.

Thanks all. He is a little bit bum high, so fingers crossed he doesn't stay that way and maybe grows a little upwards too.

Mine grew another 2 inches! He was 14.3hh when I bought him just before he turned 5 and was very bum high. He's now even (and has been since he was about 7). Thick set cobs mature quite slowly.

Thank you, what age did you back him? Mine has a bit of connie in him as well but by the looks of it quite a bit of chunky cob.

He'd just been backed when I bought him. Literally weeks earlier, coming out of winter. I continued to ride him (hacking) using my Thorn Pad and just waited a year and a half to buy a proper saddle. Even then it was due to menopausal anxiety and increasingly bad dyspraxia days reducing my confidence, so I wanted something with a bit more substance. In theory I could still ride him in the Thorn as he went amazingly in it!
